 Regional Development Australia Fund
On March 3 the Minister for Regional Australia, Regional Development and Local Government, The Hon Simon Crean MP, announced establishment of the $1.4 billion Regional Development Australia Fund.
“From today the Regional Development Australia Fund is open for business and I look forward to receiving strong, well-researched, strategic applications for funding.
Resources will be delivered over five years and funding has been allocated as part of the agreement struck with the Independents last September with a $1.4 billion commitment.
This $1.4 billion includes more than $1 billion to the Regional Development Australia Fund in addition to the $350 million earmarked to rebuild regional Australia devastated by recent natural disasters.” he announced.
Allocation of funding, which is focused on development of infrastructure, will be competitive, merit-based and only applications that have the backing of the local Regional Development Australia (RDA) committee will be considered.
Some of the key criteria from the application funding guidelines are:
• delivery of concrete economic and social benefits
• commitment to innovation and building capacity in local communities
• linking regional communities across traditional boundaries, and
• ability to leverage additional funding across government and the private sector.
Grants of between $500 000 and $25 million will be available to support projects. Grants of more than $5 million must be matched funds from sources other than the Australian Government. To ensure an immediate and positive impact, projects must be 'investment ready' and all planning, rezoning, environmental and native title approvals should be in place.
Guidelines for the program will be released shortly and to introduce the Regional Development Australia Fund to the Peel region RDA Peel will be holding a series of information sessions across the region in the near future.

Focus on our Community
Calvary Youth Services Mandurah Inc.
Calvary Youth Services is a crisis accommodation service that provides safe and secure accommodation for young people who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless. The service operates and is staffed 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and accommodates young people aged 15 – 25 years for up to 3 months depending on their situation. Clients are case managed and supported by Youth Support Workers to move from crisis to independent living.
Calvary has been operating in Mandurah for 26 years. Originally Calvary was a welfare service and then become a Youth Crisis Centre in approximately 1991. In 2009 Calvary celebrated 25 years of service.
Our Mission Statement is:
Calvary Youth Services Mandurah Inc is a non-government Christian Organisation.
We are committed to providing safe and secure accommodation to at risk or homeless young people between the ages of 15 and 25. We will assist them in their desire to overcome areas of crisis and to journey from a reliance on supporting agencies to a healthy, connected, independent lifestyle.
In addition to the crisis center we have two Transitional Housing units which can accommodate young people who have been through the crisis centre and are given the opportunity to further develop their independent living skills while still being semi supported by the agency.
Currently Calvary is in the process of securing two more units from Dept. of Housing, which is very exciting not only for Calvary but for young people who may get the opportunity to live in the unit. As affordable accommodation is a significant issue in the Peel Region this will be a very welcome addition to our Transitional Housing Program.
Agency staffing consists of 1 full time Coordinator, 1 full time Administrator/Youth Support Worker, 2 full time Youth Support Workers and 8 casual Youth Support Workers. Calvary currently has a vacancy for a full time Youth Support Worker (preferably a male) and is looking for the ‘right’ person for the job.
